Standing just 5'6", the elder necromancer is not a physically imposing fellow. With a slightly stooped posture and a bookish build, his long black hair is streaked grey, and his pale skin seems almost sickly. With luminous blue eyes lit by glittering blue flames in dilated pupils, and blue tinged lips, there is more than a hint that he may no longer be among the living. High cheekbones and a prominent nose are common amongst his bloodline.
His usual manner of dress is either leather robes or a snakeskin vest over white silk shirt, ruffled at cuff and collar. Snug black trousers and dragonskin jackboots are common as well. When out and about on the town, a voluminous purple or black and crimson cloak and a floppy, wide brimmed, peaked hat are generally worn. Silver rimmed spectacles with blue tinted lenses are a must for reading and close inspections. Velvet gloves embroidered with strange alchemic seals allow him to conceal his skeletal hand as well as somewhat mitigate the chill of his touch.
While usually only bearing his ancient Staff of the Troll War Kings when out and about, a number of other unique and ghastly weapons are at Ravynetti's disposal:
The Fang of Vhestrid is a silver gladius, with a glyphed blade, a grip of tanned human skin wrapped about bone, and what appears to be a ruby-eyed fanged skull as a pommel. The Fang contains the spirit of an ancient, enraged, and insane vampire, and is capable of a number of blood draining attacks. The Fang is capable of flying under its own power, and indeed is somewhat stronger than Ravynetti himself, making it difficult for the necromancer to control when in use. The Fang of Vhestrid spends most of its time securely locked into a steel scabbard.
The Frost Athame is a dagger with a blade of cold forged iron. Created as an implement to focus cold based spells, it retains some of the magic focused through it, allowing some limited frost based damage in those desperate times when it is used in combat.
A Charred Bone Wand (Jane). This is Ravynetti's primary general purpose focus implement, useful for gathering and amplifying magical effects. It resembles a section of a human bone with diabolic lettering burned into its length, set at one end with an ivory grip. Formed from the bones of a former lover, the charred bone wand retains something of the woman's spirit, and may be considered an intelligent item, albeit not very.
The Elfbane Bow is a short bow formed from a mix of elven bones and sinew, with an elven skull over the hand grip. It has the capability of summoning forth crude bone arrows when drawn, which provide minimal piercing power, but explode into small blasts of nether cold when they impact and shatter. Elves struck by the Elfbane risk being slain outright, and reanimated as undead suitable to their previous willpower.
Tyranny and Terror are a matched set of maces, one (Terror) composed of a few fused skulls on a shaft of reinforced bone, the other (Tyranny) composed of solid iron, wrought to resemble a crowned skull on a sceptre base. Though made of bone, Terror is every bit as heavy as Tyranny. When used singly, both may be useful as focus implements for mind affecting spells. Terror amplifies fear based spells and effects when wielded, while Tyranny amplifies charm and domination spells and effects. Used in combat, any time they strike they attempt to evoke a magical effect. Tyranny attempts to daze the target momentarily with an assault on the mind, while Terror attempts to make the target cower in fear for a moment. Both effects are eminently resistable.
The Staff of the Troll War King is a complex item. Serving as both a general focus implement and a storage device for magical energies, the Staff is the culmination of three years of questing. Reverse engineered from legends and ancient inscriptions, even Ravynetti is unsure of the Staff's exact powers. Thus far he only keeps it around because when not shrouded by an aura of mediocrity it: 'looks nice and glows.' Recently it was discovered that the staff may animate itself to move around as directed, as well as change shape somewhat.
Ravynetti is the owner and designer of the Arcane Sanctum of Millakamrath, and as such knows most of its tricks and secrets. Within the upper levels of the sanctum especially he can bypass most locks and traps with little effort, duck down secret passages, or otherwise make his escape or outmaneuver intruders. Within the upper levels, most of the threats detailed in each section may be called upon to Ravynetti's defense, while in the lower levels where noted some creatures may be less predictable.
An old, lecherous man, Ravynetti is indeed no longer living, and has sacrificed his living body long ago to fully encapsulate his spirit in unliving matter. Ironically, death is also the greatest fear of the necromancer, and he goes to great efforts to avoid it. Ravyn is known to act in a seemingly capricious manner, but generally has plans that are not immediately evident to those without many years of exposure to his activities. A petty, cruel, and somewhat shallow attitude is immediately evident to some, steeped in avarice, short on morals, and diabolic in outlook. Arrogant, vain, and grasping, he yet has been known to be somewhat charming, at least enough to get what he wishes.
Ravynetti is a skilled magist, having practiced both divine and arcane magics throughout his existence. Listing outright all of his specific spells and abilities is beyond the scope of this introduction, though some effort will be made later to provide at least a basic spellbook for the Necromancer.
